Driver crashes suspected stolen car before running away in Phoenix

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Phoenix police are searching for a driver who crashed what witnesses say was a stolen car in a downtown neighborhood and then ran away from the scene.

“It was shocking,” said Ben, who lives in the neighborhood.

Security camera video captured the moment a white sedan rammed into the back of a parked car near 10th and Roosevelt streets.

Surprisingly, that person manages to walk away from the scene, seemingly unharmed.

Phoenix Police says that while officers were on the scene, a man showed up claiming to own the white car and that he believed it had been stolen before the crash.

The owner of the parked car tells Arizona’s Family she is waiting to find out if her car is a total loss, but fears it is.

“It’s terrible how fast cars can get on this road, and I’m just glad nobody was hurt at the end of the day,” said Ben.

Ben lives across the street and his car wasn’t hit during this crash, but it has been hit here before. He says he’s seen his fair share of accidents outside his door, from what he says is speeding and reckless driving.

“It’s a residential street. People want to walk their dogs and not have to worry about cars flying by and missing, or not seeing someone. I would love to see all-way stops. I would love to see a few more speed bumps at minimum,” he said.

Phoenix police say they are investigating both the crash and the stolen car.
